Date: April 25 – April 27, 2025
Location: Gangneung, South Korea
I was truly honored to participate in the prestigious ING International Dance Festival, held in the beautiful coastal city of Gangneung, South Korea. This experience was a personal journey that transcended national borders.

A Collision of Expertise and Enthusiasm: Reflections from the Judge’s Seat
As a judge, my focus goes beyond technical precision; I am most moved by how dancers connect with the audience through their body language. The Korean dancers showcased solid foundations and delicate emotional depth, while international competitors brought a vibrant array of cultural interpretations. Every performance was a reminder: Dance is a universal language that speaks to the heart without needing words.
Back to the Stage: Performing as a Guest Artist
Beyond the judging panel, the most inspiring moment was performing as a Guest Artist on the Gangneung stage. Aside from the official competition, the Guest Showcase is a segment of the festival dedicated to pure artistic expression.
Standing there, I felt the immense warmth of the Gangneung audience, and I poured my connection to this land into every movement. Transitioning from an ‘observer’ on the judging panel back to a ‘practitioner’ on stage has given me a fresh wave of artistic inspiration.

Gangneung’s Spring Charm
In my spare time, the city of Gangneung offered me a great deal of comfort. At the end of April, the gentle sea breeze and coastal tranquility provided a striking contrast to the intense energy of the competition. Throughout my three-day trip, I deeply felt the professionalism of the Korean art scene, as well as their evident passion for dance education and promotion.
Epilogue: A Final Reflection
These three days have flown by, but the ING International Dance Festival has left a lasting impression on my heart. I am deeply grateful to the organizers for the invitation, and to every dancer whose brilliance lit up the stage
Looking forward to our next meeting on stage!
